The Sacred Victim
Vindicated
A Spirituality of Peace
The Problem of violence has troubled me all my life. As a religious person, I am especially troubled by the religious dimensions to violence and I have expended much effort in seeking ways to understand that phenomenon. Given the pacifist thrust of the Bible, I am devoted to finding responsible ways to understand the violence in the Bible so as to seek peace. The theory of sacred violence of Rene Girard has been most helpful to me for both of these concerns. I have written several essays on Girard's thought and their implications for spirituality. I invite you to explore this theory and pursue the quest for peace with me.
